This report is long overdue. Tried two more makan places at VivoCity in the past few months. No, those are not real confectionery. They are duds sold in Mother Garden, a twee shop with pretty-in-pink stuff for kids, of the two and four-legged kinds.
WHO'S DA BOSS?
We tried Bosses in the day, when it served dim sum. It wouldn't be fair, I suppose, to compare it with Taste Paradise because of this. But two non-dim sum dishes we ordered were not impressive. Some published reviews described the kailan on a bed of ice as "refreshing". To me, it was just gimmicky. The stalks were accompanied by wasabi in light soya sauce. The crispy duck had nice crispy skin but the meat beneath was dry. The dim sum items were alright and something that the fussy kids with unadventurous palates would eat.
BRAUHAUS BROWSING
It was a pleasant day, so we didn't mind when we were offered seats outdoors. We could watch the strollers and gawkers walk by, count the number of colours the Sentosa trains came in and look at who were returning from Batam after a dirrrrrty weekend!
The beer was rather nice - then again, it was a Paulaner brew. We had pork knuckles (it's pork knee in Czech Rep!) and salad. Both portions were huuuuuuge. But they were good.
