PHO LAN

We decided to try the Vietnamese restaurant next door to the creperie place.

The service was iffy - our waiter was pretty absent-minded. Food came without cutlery, then when he did supply them, he took them away again with the crockery without realising it... and so it went on throughout the evening. But the food was good, although a tad less generous and more expensive than Va-Va-Voom.

But the pomelo salad was yummy. Big chunks of the fruit drizzled with hot and sour sauce. Then it was coffee time. Tasted like the chon fox one we had in Vietnam -buttery, caramelly finish.

SOFRA

We've walked and driven past this restaurant so many times but never did walk in till last weekend to try the food. It was surprisingly good. Not as oily as we thought. The salad combo came with hummus, pita, rice wrapped in vine leaves.
We ordered the puffy sesame bread on the side. It was like the Indian puri - filled with air.
Check out the sword skewer that speared the eggplant and lamb/beef kebabs.
We liked the rice in the stuff tomato. Very tasty, with a nice texture.
We adjourned to the coffee corner for some gritty (and sweet - sugar is added by default) Turkish coffee and syrupy baclava. Too bad there were no stuffed figs.
