WHAT THE FKK!

Some of our hunts in Croatia took us to FKK camping grounds. And I thought, "Wow, a company that offers camping facilities." But several logs in the cache pages mention clothing-optional people running about. Hmmm... So I looked up FKK - it's not a company; it's German for the nudist/naturist movement. Ha ha.

At our first one in Istria (and there are many nudist camps there), we took pains not to draw attention to ourselves. After all, we'd be the odd ones out, decked in full trekking regalia. But we weren't mobbed by angry naked people. Instead, the trail was quiet, save for a man fully-clothed. We thought he acted a little suspiciously, peering about (we were peering about, but we had GPSr in hand). Must be hoping for a good look, we thought!

On Krk, Croatia's biggest island - so big, it has an airport for mainland port Rijeka and has a causeway link - this crazy cache was our last stop for the evening. But it was already 5plus when we started. The road dead-ended in an autocamp (FKK, what else!!??) at Baska. Then it was a walk along the rocky coast. Most times there was a proper trail. Then over white rocks, it was very indistinct and we had to keep a lookout for the white-red-white markings. But I was already feeling uncomfortable about scrambling over rocks by the cliffside - no railings between rocks and rocky shore below. I could see the sun making its descent into the see over the hills behind us. We had no water with us, thinking it was going to be a quick hike. It wasn't.
Then, after cresting a hill, we looked down on a small rocky cove and there were 2 people - one at each tip of the crescent beach. The man and the woman - strangers to each other, I believe - had nothing on, save a book in hand. But our trail went on... across the beach and up the slope on the other side. I kept my camera (so that they'd know we came in peace!) and paced on, er, averting our eyes. The man strategically placed his book down to defend his modesty.

By the time we reached ground zero (no more bare encounters), it was like 6.15pm. I didn't give HB time to search the area and we trudged back. Good thing too. Our sunbathers had packed up. (They must know when's a good time to leave before daylight disappeared.)

Before we even hit their cove, the woman came bounding over a slope - clad in only sneakers and panties! I dunno how she could avoid not getting scratched by the limestone rocks. At the cove, the man had dressed up and was heading in the same direction as we were.

HB was miffed, but I was relieved. Didn't make sense to get ourselves stuck on a cliff in darkness - no torch, no water, no food. Of course, other geocachers after us have since found the cache, but they had plenty of time. Gosh, some even camp there, sans clothes (some logs showed GCers modestly covered in only tees)!

Otherwise, we just enjoyed the nice views as we drove along the coastal road to Dalmatia (no highway toll!)

BAKAR

Inviting on a hot day, but we were at this viewpoint to stop for a cache and coffee

Hunting for clues at Santa Lucia church - it was closed!

Road in Velebit Mountains

We must have surprised some workers building a road tunnel below the monument, but there's a cache at this monument/viewpoint called Kubus!

Heading towards the Bosnian border (B&H juts into Croatia and so has 18km of coastline before it becomes Croatia again!)

View from a cache hidden in a fort. It overlooks Bosnia!

(Caution: Rated NC16, from here on)

Our last naked encounter was not at an FKK camp. It was right in heavily touristed Dubrovnik, while we were walking the walls. We spotted a bunch of excited schoolboys snapping away with their camera phones through an opening in the battlements. Curious, I took a look. Lo and behold - BARE-NAKED LADIES. Okay, they had their knickers on.
